First Year Production Colt Sheriff's Model 1877 Lightning Etched Panel Revolver with Desirable Two D
Manufactured in 1877, the first year of production. In Sheriff (aka Storekeeper) configuration, properly without provisions for an ejector rod, and equipped with a long checkered cylinder pin. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, with the two-line Hartford address on top of the barrel and the acid etched "COLT D.A. 38" oval panel on the left side. Three line patent dates on the left side of the frame (traces remain), with niter blue hammer and trigger, long fluted cylinder, and birds head checkered one piece rosewood grips. Matching serial number on cylinder, frame, trigger guard and backstrap, with the assembly number "17" on the loading gate.

Condition: Fine. Overall the revolver retains 30% of the original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina. Heavy concentrations of blue finish is present on the cylinder flutes, barrel and trigger guard, with traces of blue on the backstrap. The frame retains traces of original case colors in the protected areas with the balance a smooth gray patina. There is some minor pitting. The letters and numbers on the etched panel have been polished to enhance visibility. The grips are fine with a couple minor pressure dents and some scattered mild handling marks with crisp recut checkering overall. Mechanically functions, but is slightly out of time. Why not have the 77th Model 1877 Colt Double Action produced!
