This is an example of a first year production, 1915, Colt First Series Pre woodsman pistol. The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. / PATENTED DEC. 22, 1903", the left side of the slide is marked "COLT AUTOMATIC / CAL. 22 LONG RIFLE", with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations and the serial number marked on the front strap. Distinctive "pencil barrel", with elevation adjustable front blade, windage adjustable rear sights, oval checkered panel on the back strap, smooth trigger, two tone Colt marked magazine and fitted with checkered walnut grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies serial number 537 as 22 caliber, 6 1/2 inch barrel, blue finish, with grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 2 to Iver Johnson sporting Goods Company, Boston, Mass. on September 3, 1915.
BBL: 6 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 22 LR
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 537
Condition: Professionally restored with virtually all of the blue finish remaining. There is a small area at the Rampant Colt where there is some minor pitting under the finish and part of the Rampant Colt isn't visible. The grips are excellent with a few minor dings and some minor wear to the otherwise crisp checkering. The markings, unless noted above, are clear. The action is excellent.
