First Holy Bible Printed in the State of New Hampshire. (Walpole: Anson Whipple, 1815), first edition thus, 959 numbered pages (Apocrypha not paginated), brown calf boards, 8vo (5.5" x 8.75"), previous owner's signature on the verso of the title page "The Property of Charlotte S. Rice of Spencer, presented by her mother 1834." Printing in New Hampshire began in 1756 but this was the first complete Bible completed. Anson Whipple was the son-in-law of pioneering American printer Isaiah Thomas and used Thomas's press for this Bible. The typesetting and printing took five years to accomplish and the press run was 8000 copies. This particular copy is in good condition with some expected leather deterioration; the binding is fairly tight with good hinges. A fine addition to any collection of early American Bible printings.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
