Manufactured in 1929. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address, the left side is marked "38 W.C.F." and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, three patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. The upper left front of the trigger guard bow is marked with the number "3" over the Colt "VP" triangle proof. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame and on the right side of the grip straps under the grip. Blue finish with casehardened frame, blade front and frame notch rear sights, and fitted with smooth custom non-factory ivory grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, 38/40 caliber, barrel length, blue finish, rubber grips with Special Notation "Targeted" and that it was shipped as 1 on order number 17530/1 to Harold Whitmore, address unavailable on November 27, 1929.
BBL: 5 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 38 WCF
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: custom ivory
Serial Number: 353949
Condition: Very fine as customized. The revolver retains 80% original blue finish with some muzzle wear and thinning on the barrel, thinning on the trigger guard bow and a smooth grayish patina on the grip straps. The trigger guard has been modified by enlarging the slot considerably to accommodate a wider trigger which is now absent with a standard trigger in its place. There are minor scratches around the cylinder, as well as high edge wear and some thinning. The frame retains 90% fading case colors with areas of smooth gray patina. The grips are excellent with hairline age cracks on the bottoms, attractive grain and mellow aged patina. The markings are crisp and clear. The cylinder doesn't lock up properly, otherwise the action functions fine.
