First Edition hardback of The Poet Scout by Capt. Jack Crawford (1886) with handwritten personal notes on inside first pages: “Yours Fraternaly (sp) J. W. Crawford aka Jack, Sept 2nd 1889 with 50 Apaches on way to St Joseph Exposition”; also: “Aug 15th 89 On entering the Raton range after a ____ rain storm, inscribed in this volume without authority (?) See what a crimson glory binds the shadowy forehead of its west. While far below the Canadian winds, like a blue vein onbounty (?) breast”. (Signed with initials). “To Com L. C. ____ Sept. 2nd 89 I was after this a day or two The Major found those buried guns. He wore the gray and I the blue. Overall, the book is in good to very good condition with some slight fraying to the top and bottom of the spine and corners of the cover and some losses to end pages but good interior pages that show minimal aging.
