First printing. 12mo, original red cloth, gilt. 254, (2) pages; text illustrations. Binding a bit worn, with spine sunned and fabric slight frayed. Gift inscription on flyleaf. Very good or so. A respectable copy of the first printing. The Red Book is the best-selling numismatic book of all time. Eighteen thousand copies of the first edition were issued, divided equally between the first and second printing. In the first printing, the paragraph near the bottom of page 135 concludes, as here, with: "...the scarcity of this date." The second printing concludes with: "...the scarcity of 1903 O."
