Three items commemorating the flight of the 'Double Eagle II,' the first balloon to cross the Atlantic Ocean when it landed in Miserey near Paris, on August 17, 1978, 137 hours and six minutes after leaving Presque Isle, Maine. They include: a flown 2.75˝ x .5˝ swatch of the balloon’s fabric; a flown gold-tone commemorative coin, 1.5˝ in diameter, which was actually carried in the balloon from Maine to Miserey; and a limited edition flown air mail cover that was carried aboard the 'Double Eagle II,' 9.5 x 4, numbered 470/1000, which features a large color globe showing the balloon's transatlantic journey, signed in ink and felt tip by crew members Maxie Anderson, Ben Abruzzo, and Larry Newman. Postmarked at its starting point (Presque Isle, Maine, August 11, 1978) and landing point (Miserey, France, August 17, 1978). All are housed in the original vinyl envelope sleeve. In overall fine condition.
