This copper bronze sculpture from 17th century Nepal elegantly represents a white Tara. The goddess sits on a semi-circular lotus throne inpadmâsana posture, often called lotus seat. Her left hand is displaying thevarada Mudra, the gesture of wish fulfilment. Her right hand, resting on her knee, is displaying thevitarka Mudra, the gesture of explanation, which also represents the teachings of Buddha. In both hands she holds a lotus stem between thumb and forefinger, its blossom reaching up around shoulder-height. Reticulated ribbons surround the sculpture which is also decorated with exquisite jewellery.

Tara is shown with peaceful facial expression (sânta). Her head is decorated by a tight hair knot and a tiara. Her hair has been manually chiselled. Lotus decorations cover her all over, just like the beautiful malachite-green patina. The base is sealed off with a copper plate of the same patination. The white Tara is a symbol of purity and an icon of empathy.

The small copper bronze Tara is in very good condition for its age, with some traces of age and wear. It has few scratches, small nicks and a beautiful, natural patina. The sculpture is 14 cm high and 8.5 cm wide. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
