splendid 62 plate iron helmet in Sao Tome style with genuine signature by master armourer Saotome Iyehisa of considerable weight with standing rivet decoration and gold fire gilt trim. Gilt and Shakudo Nanako Mon or family crest carried on throughout. A finely made mempo or face piece is also included. The condition is original and very good for its age with minor imperfections, slight damages and normal aging. Recently mounted and storage box constructed. Has been left in its original and unrestored natural state. Most probably made for a Daimyo, Lord, or Samurai of high rank. Provenance: A Vermont deaccessioned in 2010 to a prominent eastern collector. Note: A similar helmet recently fetched 18000 lbs or 22000 U.S. dollars at Thomas Del Mar (Sothebys Assoc.)
