Fine quality clipped point Bowie knife with ornately raised carved ivory grip and blade marked Henry EcroXX, Sheffield with original scabbard remaining in very good condition. The knife measures approximately 12 ½” with 7 ¼” blade that has been lightly polished to bright and shows good traces of etched decoration and slight sharpening on the edge. The etching is probably a family crest. The grip is finely carved in the round with raised scrolls similar to exhibition knives of the 1870s. This knife retains its original German silver mounted scabbard with original tip, throat and button hanger. The scabbard shows a few small losses and tatters but is generally very good for its age. The grips show a mellow patina and are near fine. A very attractive Bowie with great ivory. Est.: $3,000-$6,000.
