Fine quality and deluxe clipped point Bowie knife by Roby of Chelmsford, Massachusetts with floral and grape vine etching on each side of the blade, Rosewood grips, Crown pommel constructed of cast brass and retaining the original scabbard. The knife measures 14 ¾” overall with 9 ½” blade. The blade is fine to near excellent with most of its original bright polish and just some minor scratches, slight sharpening at the edge and a small hint of use. The rosewood grips show some slight wear to their finish on the opposite side from being worn but are otherwise very good plus to near fine. The scabbard shows traces of original silver plate on the mounts and is very good plus with just small areas of normal aging. Roby was a well-known Civil War sword maker and marked knives by him are rare and when found usually show a cast Eagle head pommel. This is the only crown pommel that we have viewed and by far the most deluxe example of Roby Bowie knife known to advanced collectors. Est.: $11,000-$22,000.
