Fine quality Italian flintlock fowling piece with silver mountings and full stocked to the muzzle signed “Giuseppe Merli in Brescia” circa about 1770 to early 1800s. The gun measures 67” overall with 51” barrel of approximately 16 gaugesmoothbore. The rear portion of the barrel is ornately silver and gold inlaid in floral motifs which extend onto the tang. There is a gold inlay around the front sight and the barrel shows a light damascus pattern. The mounts and bands areengraved in pure silver that has darkened and the tip of the trigger guard at the top of the design is missing a small piece of inlay. The lock is in its original flintlock condition with correct small parts. The stock is in good condition withsome small losses towards the front of the muzzle with some minor and light cleaning along with wear to the checkering. The gun is very nicely balanced and an original silver tipped ramrod is included. With minor restoration this fowler would be very impressive and a beautiful early flintlock showing the quality of Brescian Arms. Est.: $2500-$5,000
