Fine quality French Flintlock Muff pistol marked “Manaf’e de Versailles” circa 1790’s to early 1800’s. The pistol measures 6-1/2” overall with 1-1/2” cannon type screw barrel of approx 38 cal smooth bore. The pistol isrichly stocked in burl walnut with finely detailed raised carving in florals around tang and on inside of grip. The hammer is lightly engraved with a dolphin on each side of the neck. The pistol remains in excellent condition showing bright original polish with sharp edges and engraving. The wood is also fine to excellent with crisp carving. Boutet was the director of the Versailles Armory and this pistol was made in the period of Marie Antoinette shortly before Napoleon’s rise by its styling. Est.;$1,500-$3,000.
