Fine quality Eastern European Wheelock fowling piece with ornate brass, pearl and dyed bone inlay circa 17th-century. The gun measures 44” overall with 34” barrel of nearly 1” smoothbore. The lock is nicelyengraved with floral and game scenes. The stock shows brass wire along with brass plaques that are engraved matching to the engraving on the lock plate. The inlays and the stock are in very good condition fortheir age with 95% plus original inlays remaining just some small losses of wire and a couple of minor replacements of inlay. The stock has been coated with a clear lacquer long ago as was the tradition of oldcollectors and the interior of the lock is complete with all of its small parts. The lock shows brass ornaments and the metal has a deep patina with a small area of slight cleaning at the breech area long ago wheresomeone started to clean this nice patina and then stopped. The gun weighs about 7 pounds and actually points quite well. This is the largest bore and most ornate Wheelock of this type that we have catalogued. This type
