Fine pair of cased dueling or target pistols by Gastinne Renette a Paris remaining in near excellent original condition. The pistols measure approximately 17” over all with 10 and nearly ½” octagon barrels of medium weight in approximately 46 caliber rifled. The barrels show nearly all their original blue finish and the locks and mounts show 75% to 85% + original case hardening with some very bright and vivid rainbow colors. The pistols are half stocked in good quality walnut with fancy bordered checkering. The locks breaches and mounts are nicely scroll engraved. The actions are crisp and the pistols show little to no use with excellent bores. The interior of the case shows embossed makers name in the lid and is lined in green felt. The interior of the case is very good plus with normal fading, fraying, slight imperfections and normal aging. The case is missing several accessories including combination tool, screwdriver, powder dipper, and utility box. The case retains mallet, 1 cap box, 2 rods and key. The exterior of the case is in good to very good condition and is a light colored wood which is probably maple with a birds eye pattern and fiddleback stripes. The exterior of the case is very good plus condition with some minor scratches and just normal aging. Gastinne Renette was a royal gun maker who won many exhibitions and awards in Europe and made superior quality arms on custom order for the king of France and royalty. He is considered the best maker of late percussion arms in Europe and his firm remained in business making the finest quality arms well into the 20th century. Est.: $4,000-$8,000.
