Fine double barrel Cape gun by V. Roos and Sohn, Stuttgart (Germany). The rifle has 26 ½” barrels with the right barrel .60 caliber rifled and the left is 16 gauge with light and straight “Paradox” style rifling for ball from shotgun shell or would also handle shot. The rifle has both German and British proofs, light floral engraving with nicely grained, checkered wood stocks, a horn guard, u-notch sight on the barrel with a bladefront. The rifle is in very good plus to near fine condition with the majority of the brown and case color remaining. The stocks are also very good with minor scratches and mars. There is a set trigger for the rightbarrel. Some areas of staining and beginning of age on the barrels and the sight is missing from the base in the tang. Crisp action and bright bores. An early big caliber gun that was favored by big gamehunters on the Cape of Africa circa 1860’s-1870’s. Est.: $1,250-$2,500. (Antique).
