"Our April 2009 fine wine auction at the Union League Club of Chicago promises to be the most exciting sale we have orchestrated since our founding in 2001. Of special note is an amazing single owner collection of carefully selected mature rarities primarily acquired in the early 1980's at the original Heublein auctions in Chicago which were the first live fine wine auctions in the United States. This collection has been maintained ever since in the custom temperature controlled cellar at the owner's historic antebellum mansion and plantation. Red Bordeaux highlights include 1955 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild; 1897, 1945, 1949, 1955, 1959 (including a double magnum) and 1961 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild; 1929 (en magnums) and 1961 Chateau Haut-Brion; 1937, 1949, 1953, 1955, 1959 and 1961 Chateau Latour; 1942, 1945 and 1955 Chateau Ausone; 1948 and 1955 Chateau Cheval Blanc; and 1959 Chateau Margaux. Chateau D'Yquem is well represented with the 1921, 1928, 1937, 1947, and 1959 vintages. There is also a pristine bottle of 1889 Tokaji Eszencia. Fine Burgundy from Bouchard includes 1915 Musigny, 1918 Grands-Echezeaux and 1933 Clos Vougeot; along with Faiveley 1919 Clos Vougeot and 1948 Frederic Mugnier Musigny (Maxim de Paris). This is truly a unique opportunity to acquire fabled wines in pristine condition with impeccable provenance.
We are also very pleased to be able to offer special select wines from the Michelin starred Plumed Horse restaurant in Saratoga, California. This acclaimed restaurant was established in the 1950's. In 2006, new ownership completely remodeled the restaurant while retaining the extensive wine cellar. Peter Armellino, formerly Chef de Cuisine at Aqua in San Francisco, became chef and partner as part of the ownership change. Notable wines include acclaimed 1996 vintage red Burgundy from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, de Vogue, Dujac and Groffier; and California classic vintages of Shafer Hillside Select, Caymus Special Select, Heitz Martha's Vineyard and Bryant Pritchard Hill.
Additional wines of note in this auction include 1929 Chateau Haut-Brion (en magnum), 1945 Chateau Palmer, 1949 Chateau Cos D'Estournel, 1961 Chateaux Haut-Brion (en magnum), Margaux and Pape-Clement; 1970 Chateaux Petrus and Latour, 1982 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild (en magnums), 1990 Chateau Cheval Blanc, 2000 Chateau Lafleur, a 21 vintage vertical of Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, double magnums of highly rated great growth Bordeaux from the 2003 vintage; DRC selections from the well regarded 1972, 2004 and 2005 vintages; fine Burgundy from Dugat, Dugat-Py, Roumier, Niellon, Coche-Dury and Ramonet; sought after Rhone wines including 2003 Chave Hermitage and Pegau Cuvee da Capo in large formats; a wide range of classic and cult California wines from Harlan, Sine Qua Non, Hundred Acre, Scarecrow and Colgin, was well as an Araujo Eisele magnum vertical; and numerous other desirable collectibles including a nice assortment from the former owners of Baur's restaurant in Springfield, Illinois.
