Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1860 Army
This is a desirable example of a Colt Model 1860 Army revolver that was manufactured in 1860. The revolver has the early and rare fluted cylinder and 7 1/2-inch barrel with four-screw frame cut for shoulder stock attachment. The barrel, cylinder and backstrap have the Colt commercial blue finish. The frame, loading lever and hammer are color case-hardened and the trigger guard is brass with a silver-plated finish. The one-piece, Army size, grip is walnut with a high polish varnish finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "-ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT-" in one line. "COLTS/PATENT" is stamped in two lines on the left side of the frame. The cylinder is not marked with the 1850 patent marking stamped in the flutes of later production fluted cylinder Model 1860 Army revolvers. The serial number, "310" is stamped on the wedge, bottom of the barrel lug, frame, backstrap and side of the cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match. Small Colt "G" and "S" inspection marks are stamped on the left side of the trigger guard. Colt manufactured approximately 4000 Model 1860 Army revolvers with fluted cylinders. Many of these revolvers were sold to dealers in the South prior to the outbreak of the Civil War.

Fine overall. The revolver retains 30% of the original blue finish overall. The balance of the barrel, loading lever, frame, cylinder and hammer have an attractive untouched dark brown patina. Traces of the original commercial blue finish are visible on protected areas of the barrel and cylinder. The trigger guard has 30% of the silver-plated finish. The rear of the barrel lug and forcing cone and the rear of the cylinder and percussion nipples have moderate flash pitting. There are several small dents on the top of the barrel at the breech and on the adjacent portion of the cylinder. The grip is in fine condition with scattered, minor, handling marks. 50% of the high polish varnish finish remains intact. The barrel markings and serial numbers are clear. The action functions well.
