Fine and Exceptional Cased Colt Model 1851 Navy or Belt Model Revolver, with Hartford Barrel Address, and in Kidder Patent Case Serial number 92731. .36 caliber, 6-shot cylinder with naval engagement roll scene. 7 1/2-inch octagon barrel with brass pin front sight. Top of barrel stamped- Address Saml. Colt Hartford CT. -Left side of frame stamped "Colts/Patent." Blued, with color case-hardened frame, hammer, and loading lever, with silver-plated brass gripstraps. The grips of varnished walnut.Varnished mahogany case, lined in deep burgundy velvet. Embossed stand of arms powder flask, blued steel double cavity bullet mold, tin of Eley Bros. percussion caps with green paper label and in paper wrapper, packet of combustible envelope cartridges by Colt's Cartridge Works, and miscellaneous round and conical lead projectiles. Shield-shaped brass keyplate inlaid on front of case. Note Kidder case patent marking, with brass corner reinforcements.Kidder casings are seldom seen with Colt revolvers. They are quite scarce, and are usually wanting in condition. Very little is known of these patented cases, other than the fact that they are seldom encountered.
