Fine Winchester First Model 1873 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine
Manufactured in 1876, this is a First Model 1873 Winchester Saddle Ring Carbine with the dust cover held in place by grooves on either side of the receiver and the oval checkered finger grip on top of the dust cover. It features a fixed front sight and two leaf folding rear sight. The top of the barrel has the standard two line address reading "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING-ARMS.NEW HAVEN.CT. / KING'S-IMPROVEMENT- PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860." and is absent of a caliber designation at the breech or on the bottom of the brass elevator. The model designation is on the upper tang and serial number on the lower. Blade front sight integral with the barrel band and two leaf folding rear sight, saddle ring and staple mounted on the left side of the receiver and it is fitted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with an iron carbine buttplate and buttstock compartment.

Condition: Very fine. The carbine retains 50% plus original blue finish mixed with smooth brown and gray patina. There are a few minor dings and scratches on the metal surfaces. The wood is fine, with the exception of a small filled repair on the left side of the forearm at the barrel band, there are only a few minor dings and handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent. Seldom are these early Model 1873 saddle ring carbines found in this very fine condition.
