This is an example of an U.S. martially inspected Whitney Second Model, 2nd Type Navy Revolver. The revolver has six safety notches on the back of the cylinder and a ball type loading lever latch. Matching numbers are present on the cylinder, swiveling cylinder pin retainer, loading lever, cylinder, and both grips. The cylinder is roll engraved with the eagle, shield and lion scene. The top of the barrel is marked "E. WHITNEY/N. HAVEN". Single inspector letter "C" initials are present on the barrel, frame, cylinder, and brass trigger guard, with "FCW" military inspector's mark on the left side of the frame. Fitted with two piece varnished grips.

Condition: Fine. The revolver has an overall crisp smooth gray patina with traces of original blue finish in the protected areas and 40% original case colors remaining on the loading lever and hammer. The trigger guard retains 30% original silver plating with the exposed brass having an attractive untouched patina. Traces of the cylinder scene remain. The grips are excellent, retaining most of the varnish with some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
