The Model 1842 Musket has the distinction of being the first regulation percussion firearm manufactured in a national armory, the first musket manufactured at the U.S. Armories at Springfield and Harpers Ferry with completely interchangeable components and the last .69 caliber, smoothbore musket issued by the U.S. Army. Seeing use in the Mexican-American War, the Model 1842 remained the primary American infantry weapon on both sides during the opening years of the Civil War. Fixed brass blade sight on the front barrel band, with the barrel marked "V/ P/ eagle head" and "AR/ P" on the left rear and "1847" on the tang. The lock plate is marked "HARPERS / FERRY / 1847" vertically at the rear and "American Eagle/ U.S." in front of the hammer. Smooth straight grip stock with a trumpet head ramrod, sling swivels, a faint cartouche on the left side and a flat buttplate marked "U.S." on the heel. Complete with a bright "U.S." marked 17 1/2" socket bayonet.

Condition: Very fine, with a bright appearance to the metal surfaces, with some mild spotting and handling marks. The stock is also very fine with a few pressure dents and dings overall. The bayonet has a smooth silver gray mottled patina. Mechanically excellent.
