Fine U.S. Colt Artillery Model Single Action Army Revolver
From 1895 to 1903 a number of "US" marked Single Action Army revolvers, like this one, were returned to either the Colt factory or Springfield Armory where they were modified (to 5 1/2 inch barrel length), dismantled and sometimes refinished, often with little regard to which gun the refinished parts came from, resulting in a mix of serial numbers and markings. These revolvers have a 5 1/2 inch barrel, casehardened frame and blue cylinder, grip frame and barrel. The serial numbers are mixed on these artillery models and they were by inspectors of the era. This revolver is serial numbered "47682" on the frame, "120984" on the trigger guard, "131650 / K" on the backstrap and the cylinder is un-numbered and stamped with a small "P". It bears the standard one line address on top of the barrel, "P" marked on the bottom of the barrel and the three line, three patent date marking on the left side of the frame followed by "U.S.". The loading gate is numbered "913". It has the later oval style ejector rod head, standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and is fitted with smooth one piece walnut grips absent of any cartouche or inspector markings, and stamped "1ST B / 84" on the right side. "NY" has also been marked into the right side (New York).

Gauge: 45 Long Colt

The frame also shows 50% case colors with a smooth brown and silver gray on the balance. The grips are very good with a couple of small gouges, some moderate chipping along the bottom edges and a few minor dents and dings. The markings are readable. The action is excellent.
