Blade front and 3-leaf rear sights, with "FDL" on the left side of the breech and the three line patent markings on the rear of the swiveling breechblock. Lock plate is marked "JOSLYN FIRE ARMS CO./STONINGTON CONN/1864" ahead of the hammer. Mounted with a smooth straight grip stock with "FDL" cartouches on the left side over the saddle ring bar and a "US" marked buttplate. 8,000 of these carbines were purchased by the Ordnance Department, the Joslyn was an effective and popular carbine that was widely issued to Federal Cavalry throughout the Civil War.

Fine. The barrel retains 50% of the original blue finish, mostly showing a crisp brown patina overall with mild spotting and some handling marks. Traces of original case colors are visible on the lock, with a bright spot ahead of the hammer and a brown patina on the balance. The stock is very fine, with crisp cartouches, and some mild chips and dents. Mechanically excellent.
