Fine Selection of Autographs and Manuscripts - Session 2

Auction Details

Alexander Autographs is pleased to announce its two-session auction scheduled for November 16 and 19, 2002 of a most important collection of over five hundred lots of letters, manuscripts, documents and photographs of historic figures in all areas of collecting.

A feature lot of Alexander Autograph’s current offering is a rare grouping of seven sequential color photographs showing the now world-famous trio of New York City firemen raising the American flag above Ground Zero, the final image signed by all three firemen. A significant portion of the proceeds from the sale of this lot will be donated directly to The Bravest Fund, a charity benefiting members of the FDNY, NYPD, EMS and Port Authority.

Another outstanding historical item in this sale is an intimate letter penned by Malcolm X to Elijah Muhammad detailing the marital trials and failures of his relationship with his wife, Betty.

Among the many exciting items to be sold at auction is a selection of celebrity props and memorabilia from the Joe Franklin Archives including Charlie Chaplin’s screen-used black “tramp” coat and bamboo cane, Rudolph Valentino’s smoking jacket and Marilyn Monroe’s rhinestone studded sunglasses. Additionally, an incredible selection of Elvis Presley pieces will be offered, most notably a handwritten set list for a benefit show at Ellis Auditorium on Feb. 25, 1961, inscribed to Gary Pepper.

Also represented are all the American presidents, including a color photograph of five presidents: George H. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon, signed by each, as well as signatures, letters, and documents of Washington, Lincoln and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Alexander Autographs will also offer significant material in other areas of collecting including slavery-related material, military figures, heads of state, artists, authors, aviation and space travel, scientists, composers, entertainers, vintage sports, Americana, and much more.
