Type II Model 1795s are dated from 1806 to 1809 with this example dated 1807. The lock has the date "1807" stamped behind the hammer, a script "US" above, and "eagle/SPRINGFIELD" stamped ahead of the hammer. The top of the barrel is stamped "VV3" and the left side of the barrel is stamped with "P/eagle head/V" proofs. There is a very deep small crescent shaped condemnation marking on the barrel near the frizzen. (This is a plus in that it almost certainly tells you that it is original Flintlock). The action has a removable flashpan. It has has iron furniture with the buttplate tang stamped "1807". The military stock with three barrel bands is stamped with the number "37" behind the trigger guard. The Model 1795 Musket represents many firsts in U.S. martial arms including the first standardized and official model of musket manufactured for the U.S. Government.
