Fine Pennsylvania Flintlock Rifle, by John Dreisbach, .38 cal., 38'' octagonal barrel, with tradelock marked ''J. Dana Warranted'', top of barrel marked ''J.D.'' with lattice-type roll markings at rear sight. Classic Lancaster Co. nickel silver patchbox with decorative moons, escutcheons and end cap to burnished walnut stock. John Dreisbach is mentioned on page 214 of Kauffman's book ''Pennsylvania Kentucky Rifles'', and on page 194 of Joe Kindig's book ''Thoughts on the Kentucky Rifle of the Golden Age''. This rifle has spent many years in Maryland and Pennsylvania in the collections of Ted Gewirz and Robert Kuck, and just recently surfacing in California. Condition is fine to near excellent with darkening to metal components, nickel silver with even patination, loss behind flashpan to upper right portion of stock, as well as just forward of frizzen. Stock also shows repair emanating from sideplate and continuing to first wedge of escutcheon, which has been professionally accomplished long ago. Good working set trigger. Muzzle with circular border detail. Ramrod is present. A classic Kentucky rifle of superior quality. Est.: $5,000-$7,500. (Antique)
