Fine, John Christopher. LOST ON THE OCEAN FLOOR - DIVING THE WORLD'S GHOST SHIPS. Naval Institute Press, Annapolis. 2004. 8vo. viii, (2), 255, (3) pages. original blue leatherette, lettered in silver, jacket. Bibliography. B&w photos. English text. The David Baker Library. Fine. This book covers a lot of ground, relating many of the author's exploits in diving on sunken ships and stories of others' adventures too. It includes the story of Mel Fisher's salvage of the 'Atocha' off the waters of Key West; Teddy Tucker's and Harry Cox's success along the coast of Bermuda, salvaging the 'Sea Venture' and the 'San Pedro', to name a few of their recoveries; the salvage of the pirate ship, 'Speaker', off the island of Mauritius; the search for Columbus' ship, 'Santa Maria'; and the salvage of the 'HMS Association' in the Scilly Isles of England by Terry Hiron and James Heslin (no mention of Roland Morris, strangely). Chapters are also allocated to some of the great lost ocean liners, the shipwrecks on Anegada Reef (Tortola), ancient shipwrecks, and modern war wrecks. Many other shipwreck and salvage operations are briefly mentioned. Lot weight: 1 lbs 3oz. Subject(s): Sunken Treasure.
