<td width="100%">
A very fine and impressive Japanese akasuke ginbari vase with a design of budding roses. Unsigned, but probably made at the Ando Company, Japan. Dimensions are 7.25" tall by approx. 4.0" wide at the shoulder. The vase most likely dates late Meiji to early Taisho, ca.1910-30. The vase has silver rims and wire. The akasuke, (pigeon-blood), foil is embossed with an overall shark-skin dimpled texture. Within this texture are delicate reliefs of bamboo and a bird in flight. The roses blossoms and buds are shaded with moriage white, pink, and yellow. The thickness of the enamelling on this vase is quite significant and helps give the vase a weighty feel. The vase weighs approx. 1.6 pounds and is in excellent condition without any injury or repair.
