Chinese Jade is very famous in the world.Jade is a stone of much history,it has been a part of oriental philosophy for centuries.Jade has always held a special place in Chinese culture. From ancient times its value has been considered to be greater than gold or silver.Beginning in the Neolithic period, the stone was carved into shapes such as discs or square tubes and placed on the body of the deceased within the tomb.

First discovered in 1924 at Qijiaping in Guanghe,Gansu Province, the Qijia Culture spread around the upper reaches of the Taohe,Daxia and Weihe rivers in Gansu and the Huangshui basin in the upper reaches of the Yellow River in Qinghai, during the transitional period from the Neolithic Age to the Bronze Age (2250-1900BC).The culture was at a same time as the Longshan Culture (2500-2000 BC),which was widespread in the central plains in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, and is characterized by very fine unpainted ceramics, jades, and simple tools.

This is a fine jade artifact from Qijia culture.Cong, essentially tube with a square cross-section and a circular hole, are among the most impressive yet most enigmatic of all ancient Chinese jade artefacts.Their function and meaning are still completely unknown. The main types of cong have a square outer section around a circular inner part, and a circular hole.
