Fine Grand Tour Diary
Fine Grand Tour Diary
Journal with "souvenirs" of a European tour (the traveller's second) in 1887. The first pages have neatly pressed vegetation inserted into slits in the pages with labels re: the origins (an ivy leaf is labelled "From Thackeray's Grave;" a flower from Covent Garden; a leaf now missing "From the old London Wall built by the Romans in the First Century;" a rose leaf from "Beethoven's Grave;" etc.). Then there is a description of the journey. The last section has postcards, photographs, business cards, etc. from the various towns, landmarks and hotels along the way. Included in this section is a printed invitation to the "Jubilee Procession To Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria." With hand written name and seat number. The journal writer has added the date ("June 21, 1887, London"). Blue calf with gilt spine, 12mo., with marbelized endpapers and gilt page edges.
Some vegetation broken and lost, but in general condition of pages and photos is very good.
