Fine First Model Brevette Dragoon Revolver
This is a very good example of a high quality period copy of a Colt First Model Dragoon revolver. The revolver is hand engraved "COLTS / PATENT / U.S." on the left side of the frame. The top of the barrel is also hand engraved "{ADDRESS SAML COLT, NEW-YORK CITY} " reading from breech to muzzle and the cylinder is roll engraved with the Federals and Indians battle scene, as well as being marked "U.S. DRAGOONS / COLT'S PATENT" in banners with the serial number in the center. The revolver has the distinctive oval cylinder stops and the square back trigger guard. The complete hand engraved matching serial number is located on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard, and backstrap. The loading lever and wedge are un-numbered.

Fine. The metal has been cleaned, the round portion of the barrel, loading lever and cylinder remain bright. The barrel lug has a mottled gray patina with some minor pitting and the frame is a smooth silver gray. There is minor pitting on the cylinder and most of the scene is visible. The trigger guard and backstrap retain 99% of the period re-plating which is beginning to age after being polished some time ago and there are a few minor gashes on the front strap. The grips are very good retaining about 50% of the original finish and showing a few minor dings, dents and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
