Fine Engraved, First Year Production, Colt Cloverleaf House Model Revolver with Pearl Grips
This fine engraved Colt Cloverleaf, House Model Revolver with four-shot cylinder was manufactured in 1871. The revolver has a silver-plated frame, barrel and cylinder and is fitted with two-piece, bird's head, pearl grips. The revolver has an integral, half-moon, front sight on the barrel, and 'pinch-frame' rear sight on the top strap and low profile, knurled, hammer spur. The revolver features factory Germanic scroll engraving on a punch-dot background. The engraving appears similar to master engraver Louis D. Nimschke or his shop. The engraving coverage is equivalent to the later Colt "B" or "2" engraving and features Nimschke's distinctive wavy line and dot borders on the edges of frame, wheat-chaff designs on the top strap and a star on the top of the barrel behind the rear sight. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "+ COLT'S HOUSE PISTOL / HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.+" in two lines with a Maltese Cross at either end of the legend. The serial number, "3246" is stamped on the butt and the underside of the barrel. The two serial numbers match. The Cloverleaf House Model Revolver was the first Colt solid frame revolver chambered for metallic cartridge ammunition.

Fine. The pistol retains 30% of the delicate, silver-plated, finish in protected areas on the frame. The barrel, cylinder, hammer and ejector rod are bright. The brass frame has a mellow patina. The barrel markings and serial numbers are crisp and the engraving is deep and sharp. The pearl grips are slightly yellowed with age but remain in fine condition with no cracks or chips. Mechanically excellent. This is an attractive and fine example of a highly desirable Colt cloverleaf revolver.
