Fine Engraved European Flintlock Blunderbuss with Snap Bayonet
Produced without sights, with a flared, floral bordered muzzle, additional floral and punch dot engraving on the rear flats, surrounding a set of axes and flags arrayed around a crown. Running along the top of the barrel is the spring loaded 12 1/2" triangular spike bayonet, which has a sliding retention clip on the tang and a locking block on the muzzle. Engraved lock and trigger guard, with an array of arms on the guard, an acorn finial, scroll designs on the lock and hammer and a raised grotesque face on the flash pan. Full length raised relief carved stock (top rear wrist), with an ebony reinforced ramrod, floral engraved reverse plate, silver inscription oval on the checkered straight wrist, and floral and armament themed engraving on the buttplate. Writer believes this fine blunderbuss to be of French origin, but cannot be sure without makers markings.

Condition: Fine. Bright overall, with mild spotting, a small amount of pitting and mild handling marks. The trigger guard is cracked in the rear, and some mild cracks are visible on the bayonet and hardware. Stock is fine, with exception of a crack on the left side of the wrist and scattered pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically fine.
