<td width="100%">
A fine Japanese bronze mirror, Edo Period, ca.1850. Dimensions are 7-1/8" long, by 4" wide. Before mirrored glass was widely available, highly polished metals, (in this case bronze), was used to create hand mirrors. Often the mirrors would be decorated with beautiful designs in raised relief. Mirrors were customarily given as wedding gifts. This bronze mirror is decorated on the reverse side with sharp raised reliefs of the character of "joy" and young pine saplings. The background is textured with an eel-skin like texture. Also, this mirror has the original rattan wrap on the handle. The mirror also has the 6-character artists signature in sharp raised relief. The entire mirror has a dark age-worned warm patina. Overall condition consensus is very fine condition without any injury or repair.
