Fine Colt Model 1878 Frontier Six Shooter Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1898 and later factory shipped in 1899. The included factory letter confirms the caliber, barrel length and finish with the type of stocks not listed. The revolver was shipped to John P. Lovell Arms Co. of Boston, Massachusetts, on September 2, 1899 as a single gun shipment. The barrel has the one line Hartford address with "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" on the left side. The left side of the frame has a circled Rampant Colt. The serial number is stamped on the toe of the butt and the partial serial number "265" is stamped on the rear of the cylinder. The loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "332." All blue finish with niter blue trigger and hammer. In the book COLT'S DOUBLE-ACTION REVOLVER: MODEL OF 1878, author Don Wilkerson estimated that 5,132 blue finished Model 1878s with a 7 1/2 inch barrel were manufactured.

Mechanically fine.
