Fine Civil War U.S. Springfield Model 1863 Type I Percussion Rifle-Musket with Bayonet

This is an example of a Type I Model 1863 Rifle-Musket with barrel bands secured with screws and three leaf rear sight as manufactured in 1863. The rear of the lock plate is correctly dated "1863" with an "eagle/shield" and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" stamped ahead of the hammer. An additional "eagle/shield" is stamped on the bolster. Barrel is also dated 1863 and has "V/P/eagle head" proofs on the left side at the breech. Finished bright except for the casehardened hammer and lock plate. The full length stock has two clear cartouches (TBH and ESA) on the left flat and a "US" marked buttplate. The iron ramrod ha a tulip head with a straight shank. With a "US" marked bayonet.

Very fine. The musket has a very attractive bright appearance with the hammer and lock retaining 80% soft original case colors. The reoiled stock is fine with crisp edges and a few minor handling marks. The cartouches are excellent. Mechanically excellent.
