Manufactured from 1861 to 1874, the Model No. 2 Army began production just prior to the start of the Civil War and quickly became popular, especially among Union officers. However the Model No. 2 was never officially adopted by the U.S. Army. The top of the barrel is marked with the Springfield address and the cylinder marked "PATENTED APRIL 3, 1855, JULY 5, 1859 & DEC 18, 1860." around the center. The serial number is marked on the butt and inside of the right grip panel with "XX8" marked on the frame under the grip, back of the barrel lug and front cylinder face. Six round unfluted cylinder, smooth spur trigger, casehardened checkered hammer, with smooth rosewood grips on a square butt.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains a strong 80% original blue finish exhibiting thinning on the high edges. 60% original blue finish remains on the cylinder with the balance now an even plum patina. The frame shows strong traces of original blue finish having flaked off with time. There is very limited light pitting. The hammer retains traces of original case colors. The grips are excellent.
