<td width="100%">
An impressive Korean Underglaze Cobalt-Blue vase, ca.16th-18th c., Choson Period. The dimensions of this fine porcelain vase are 10-1/2" tall, 5-1/2" widest. The shape is a tall slender vase with an ample belly that waists to a slender neck with a dish-shaped mouth. This shape is reminiscent of earlier Chinese Yuan dynasty wares (1271-1368). The body of the vase was dipped (held by the foot rim) into a white base ground slip and painted with a design of scrolling flower in a translucent underglaze cobalt-blue. The glaze is lighter, showing the white base ground, where the brushed-on color is thinner and darker where it is thicker. The design is brisk, loose and carefree. The entire vase, as mentioned above, is glazed with exception of the foot rim. The inner foot is "quick-brush" painted with a brown pigment. There is fine uniform shrinkage crackling visible on the shoulder and foot of the vase caused from the varying temperatures (rising and falling) during the lengthy firing process. The overall condition consensus is excellent condition without any injury or repair.
