<td width="100%">
A fine large porcelain urn, Cizhou yao style with sgraffitto design, Kangxi signture, ca. 18th/19th c. Dimensions are 7.5" tall by 10.5" diameter (mouth rim). The large urn weighs in at 8 lbs. The jar has a large mouth rim that tapers sharply to a slightly concave unglazed foot. The center of the foot has a glazed recessed medalion with an underglazed cobalt-blue 6-character Kangxi signature, Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi, Great Qing Kangxi Year Made. We conservatively attribute this urn to ca.18th/19th c. The body of the urn has a carved design of human figures in various court scenes. The design is carved appears carved into the porcelain surface or carved into an applied slip on the porcelain body. After the carving, black, creme, glazes and white were applied and fired. The resultant work is quite refined. There are small shrinkage openings that can be seen at the bottom of the inner urn and one in the recessed foot medallion. These most likely occurred because of the clay having a litle too much moisture before firing which cause rapid shrinkage in these areas. Overall condition consensus is extremely fine condition without any injury or repair.
