Fine Cased Pair of English Clough & Sons Percussion Pistols with Snap Bayonet A) Clough & Sons Percu
This unique matched pair of percussion pistols feature a folding bayonet and were manufactured by Clough & Sons circa 1855 to 1861. The 4" bayonet is released by pulling back the trigger guard. The lock plate is marked "CLOUGH & SONS". The Damascus smooth bore barrel is marked "CLOUGH & SONS, BATH" on the top flat. Fixed sights, with a scroll engraving on the casehardened, silver banded upper tang, breech plug, fish sculpted hammer and lock plate. The scroll engraving extends to the blued trigger guard. The varnished stock has a horn forend tip and an ebony grip cap, a single stock wedge, German silver thumb shield and wedge escutcheons, and checkering in the grip area. Complete with a wooden case lined in blue felt. The inside of the lid has a Clough & Sons retailer label and the top of the lid has a circle brass initial plate engraved with the letter "N". The case has the following accessories: two wooden containers, single conical iron bullet mold marked with the number "26", brush, powder measure, ramrod/cleaning rod (detachable cleaning rod tip included), and powder flask.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 60% of the Damascus pattern with the balance a smooth brown patina. The hammer, lock plate, upper tang, and breech plug retain 50% original case colors, otherwise faded to a gray. There is some minor flash pitting, Traces of original blue finish remain around the trigger and on the trigger guard, otherwise a smooth gray patina. The bayonet has been cleaned and now aging again. The bayonet hardware and percussion nipple retain 95% original niter blue finish. The stock is fine with some minor pressure marks/dents. Overall the checkering is crisp. The case is fine with some minor handling marks and a missing chip on a lid corner. The lining has minor wear with a legible maker's label. The accessories are fine.

There is some minor flash pitting with a couple very small areas of pitting on the right side of the barrel at the muzzle. A few streaks of original blue finish remain around the trigger, otherwise a gray patina. The bayonet has been cleaned. The bayonet hardware and percussion nipple retain traces of the original niter blue finish. The stock is fine with some minor pressure marks/dents and some minor scratches, with a minor chip missing near the lock plate. Overall the checkering is crisp.
