Fine Cased Engraved Collis Pepperbox Pistol with Accessories
Manufactured circa 1845 by G.R. Collis, Birmingham. The pistol features a 44 caliber fluted barrel cluster with Birmingham proofmarks at the breech end of each flute and the barrel chambers numbered from 1 to 6. The frame, trigger guard and backstrap feature light floral scroll engraving with scallop bordering. The left side of the frame is marked "G.R. COLLIS / MAKER / 28 CHURCH ST / BIRMINGHAM", the right side "IMPROVED / REVOLVING PISTOL" and the backstrap has "175" engraved in an oval panel. The frame, barrels and hammer are casehardened, the trigger guard blue and the trigger niter blue. The pistol is fitted with smooth two piece piano finished rosewood grips. Complete in a walnut case with silver shield with castle engraved on it, dark green velvet lining, ebony handled nipple wrench and screwdriver, cleaning rod, bullet mold, oiler and leather wrapped brass flask.

Condition: Very fine. The barrels retain strong traces of the original case colors mixed with smooth gray patina. The frame retains 20% bright original case colors mainly in the protected area of the trigger guard, and traces on the hammer with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The trigger guard retains 90% of the bright original high polish blue finish and the trigger retains 50% of the original bright niter blue finish. The grips are excellent with 99% plus original varnish and a few minor dings and dents. The markings and engraving are clear. The action is excellent. The case and accessories are fine. The exterior of the case shows some minor dings and scratches, the lining has some minor contact wear and soiling.
