Fine C. Golden Single Shot Fowler, #13, 12 bore lightly choked, 29-1/2'' browned barrel, originally with case hardened percussion lock, hammer, tang and buttplate, with a light treatment of banknote type engraving to sideplate, dolphin hammer, upper tang, buttplate, triggerguard, all screws and wedge escutcheons; breech plug is case hardened with platina bolster; barrel is marked ''C. Golden Bradford''; bottom of barrel marked ''13'' and and multiple Birmingham proofmarks. Hickory wiping/ramrod with bugle and jag ends may be a later American-made replacement. Original platina front bead is present. Sharply checkered fine English walnut straight wrist is cut in the bird's mouth pattern as is horn-tipped forend portion of stock. Wrist checkering is continuous from each side and transitioning over the top portion of stock. Features date this Fowler to the late 1850s or early 1860s. Condition is fine to near excellent as partially refinished, with sideplate and rear portion of triggerguard, as well as buttplate, appearing to have been later English blued. Hammer and upper tang retain vivid case colors but may have also been refurbished at a later date. Browned barrel assembly shows very light thinning to maker's name and address at top portion of barrel near breech. Action remains crisp, bore is clear and shows little use. Est.: $1,800-$2,200.
