Fine Andrew Wurfflein Philadelphia Half Stock Percussion Target Rifle
Brass blade and adjustable notch rear sights on an octagonal marked "A. WURFFLEIN / PHILA" on the left flat and scroll and double gold bands near the breech. Andrew Wufflen is famous for his fine workmanship on percussion sporting and target rifles. Top barrel flat has two slots where a tube sight had been mounted. The current rear sight occupies one of the slots. Floral engraved hammer side, upper tang, lock plate and silver finger sculpted trigger guard, side plate, cap box, forend cap and crescent buttplate. Half stock with checkered wrist, double set triggers, silver oval initial inlay on left flat and raised right handed cheekpiece. Complete with photocopy of a late 19th/early 20th century photograph showing the downtown office of gun manufacturer John Krider.

Condition: Very fine with approximately 70% of the original brown with the balance a crisp patina remaining on the barrel. The lock plate and hammer exhibit a dull metal aged patina. There is a small hole where a tang sight had once been mounted. The silver components are very fine with some minor aging. The freshened stock is very fine with some minor handling marks and some light varnish flaking. The markings and engraving are clear. Mechanically very good.
