Biography
Tadeusz Rychter. born in Lvov, Poland in the early 1870s. Studied at the Art Academy in Krakow. After travelling around Europe, he came to Palestine He settled in the Mamilla neighborhood in Jerusalem with his wife, Anna May Rychter. Rychter was commissioned to do artistic repairs at a church in Bethlehem, and spent the rest of his time doing ethereal watercolors. He became a well-known watercolorist in the 1920s and '30s and exhibited his work at the Bezalel Museum, the salon of Cardinal Ferrari in Jerusalem and the home of the Chelouche family in Tel Aviv. Tadeusz Rychter was turned down by the Palestine Artists' Association in 1935, apparently because he was a Catholic. He eventually stayed in Palestine for 13 years and returned to Poland around 1939 when he was commissioned to restore a church. He disappeared after the Germans invaded Poland and wasn't heard from since.
