beginning of the 20th century (the skirt and most likely even the conch necklace with red patina are older), height 21.5 cm terracotta sculpture of a fat man with full cheeks and big belly. The surface is brown and glazed, the refraction is lighter. The figure is wearing a terracotta and conch necklace, on each wrist and left leg is a bracelet. The lower part of the figure is covered by a light brown bast skirt. Engraving on the forehead, cheeks and belly indicates tattooing. On the top of the head there is a comb-shape hair-style. Provenance: Bangwa or Bongu (Grasland, Cameroon), Starting Price: CZK 28,000; USD 820; EUR 932, Estimated price: (30,000 - 34,000) CZK., The shape modelling of the sculpture is very similar to the artistic style of the Bangwa and Bongu tribes; it reminds us of wooden sculptures used in fights against attacks of bad spirits. We cannot exclude the possibility that the figure was made as a caricature; nevertheless it is an exceptional piece, so rare that it could be considered unique.
