Fernando Botero, The Dancers , Giclée on Canvas
Presented in this lot is this Fernando Botero, "The Dancers", Giclée on Canvas. Fernando Botero (1932-2023) was a Colombian figurative artist and sculptor. His signature style, known as ‘Boterismo’, depicts people in large, exaggerated volume. These characters may be depicted alone or in groups and range from those performing societal roles, such as politicians to structure performers such as dancers, to scenes of leisure in which people are shown drinking or dancing. Though his satirical renderings may seem humorous at first, they are often laden with social and political commentary. His use of vivid colours with sketched figures came from the Latinamerican folkart influences of Francisco de Goya and Diego Velázquez. The original 1987 painting features a man and woman dancing with others in a decorated room, perhaps at a wedding or a festival. highlights the movements of the foreground couple, contrasting the male figure's blank gaze with his partner's animated dance steps. This stretched Giclée on canvas is in nice condition, normal wear noted. Measures 11"W x 15.75"L x 1"D.
