Angel Alley was a residential court which used to run off Back Lane, near High
Street, Cornmarket, and the ancient St Audoen’s Church, at the western edges of
Dublin’s medieval centre. The area had a long tradition of tanning and leather
working, and small commercial sheds and warehouses were interspersed between
areas of tenements, such as those depicted here. It was demolished circa 1956.
