French academic and liberal politician (1841–1932) who helped build the modern French education system, and shared the 1927 Nobel Peace Prize with Ludwig Quidde. Uncommon ANS in French, signed “F. Buisson,” one page on a 4 x 5.5 stationery sheet imprinted with "Autographe, Collection Alfred Brust," no date. Handwritten note by the pioneering and influential educator, in full (translated): "I recommend to you this thought of Amiel: "Were there no holy and good God, duty would still remain the pole star of humanity. To give happiness and to do good, that is our reason. For all religions can collapse: as long as this one remains, we have an ideal, and it is worth living for.'" In fine condition.
