Confederate brigadier general (1812–1862) who was killed in action at the Battle of Mill Springs, making him the first Confederate general to die in the Western Theater. War-dated ALS signed “F. K. Zollicoffer, Brig. General,” one page, lightly-lined, 7.75 x 9.75, September 21, 1861. Letter, written from Camp Buckner, reads, in part: “I would again direct your attention to my published General Order No. 2 after the 11th of August & the condition therein expressly stated upon which I would require companies organized in the counties of Lee & Scott, to wit: ‘that they furnish their own rifles.’ The government is unable to arm them.” In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, and scattered mild foxing and toning. Accompanied by two photos, most likely early 19th century, one of the ‘Zollie’ tree where Zollicoffer fell in battle, and one of the marker placed at the site.
